The NC Homeowner Assistance Fund is no longer accepting new applications, as we expect the applications in process to exhaust remaining funding. Applications that are already in process will continue to be reviewed. However, all applications are subject to the availability of funds and eligibility review.
Thank you for your commitment to working with us to get the word out about the NC Homeowner Assistance Fund (NCHAF) in your community. Because of your help in spreading awareness, we were able to help 16,000 homeowners remain in their homes. You can learn more at our Dashboard.
The NC Homeowner Assistance Fund was established through the 2021 American Rescue Plan to prevent mortgage delinquencies, defaults, displacements and foreclosures for homeowners experiencing financial difficulties due to the coronavirus pandemic. Assistance of up to $40,000 is available for qualified homeowners as long as funding is available.
The program is managed by the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency, a self-supporting public agency that finances affordable housing opportunities for North Carolinians whose needs are not met by the market. Since its creation in 1973 by the General Assembly, the Agency has financed more than 318,830 affordable homes and apartments, totaling $30.1 billion.
The Agency provides financing through the sale of tax-exempt bonds and management of federal tax credit programs, the federal HOME Program, the state and national Housing Trust Fund, Homeowner Assistance Fund and other programs.
