Beware of scams

The NC Homeowner Assistance Fund is close to running out of funds and will be closing very soon. Because we look at how much funding is available daily, we will not be able to provide notice prior to the program closing. If you have not completed and submitted your application or have not submitted all required documents, we urge you to do so today.

If you do not submit an application before the program closes, you will not be considered for funding. All applications are subject to the availability of funds and eligibility review. Remaining funds will be awarded in the order of approved applications.

If you have any questions, please contact the NCHAF Call Center at 855-696-2423, Monday – Friday.

Am I Eligible?

The NC Homeowner Assistance Fund may be able to help with housing payments if you have had a financial hardship during the pandemic and are behind on your housing costs related to your home in North Carolina. Financial hardship can be due to job loss/business closure, reduction in hours or pay, difficulty obtaining new employment, death of a spouse or co-borrower or increased costs due to the pandemic. Increased costs can be due to health care, the need to care for a family member, increased child-care costs due to school closures or increased costs associated with quarantine.

Answer the questions below to see if you might be eligible:

  • Do you own a primary residence in North Carolina?
  • Have you experienced a pandemic-related financial hardship after January 21, 2020? Including a hardship that began before January 21, 2020 but continued after that date?
  • Are you at least 30 days past due on your mortgage payment or on other housing-related payments, such as homeowner’s insurance, flood insurance, mortgage insurance, homeowner’s association dues or overdue property taxes, or do you need assistance for mortgage reinstatement?
  • Does your income fall below $96,200? If it is higher, you still may qualify under certain circumstances—check here. Please note that the program targets low- and moderate-income homeowners per guidelines from the US Department of the Treasury.

If you answered “yes” to these questions, you may be eligible to receive up to $40,000 in assistance. If you’re not eligible for this program, you can find additional resources available here. Please note that funds are limited.
